Four In One Cone
August 14, 2005
Temperatures in the 90s were forecast, but our hike was pleasant,
first shaded by lodgepole pine then mountain hemlock.
About the last mile, we reached the lava flows and the cinder scree to
the crater rim, where a stiff breeze kept us comfortable.
We explored the four contiguous cones, and enjoyed the views of North Sister,
Mts. Hood, and Washington and Jefferson among the most prominent.
We had an excellent spot for lunch before starting back.
