Sand Mountain

February 15, 2004

We met at the South Eugene parking lot at 0800 and drove on up to the Santiam pass. The weather was perfect, clear with not a breath of wind. The night before it snowed about six inches. Since the weather was so nice we decided to ski north of the pass though the burn that occurred last summer. We donned our skis in perfectly clear weather and skied north through the burn. Taking careful G.P.S. fixings and blind luck we skied though the burn west of Three Fingered Jack with just breath taking views with the clear weather. We worked ourselves along the trail and eventually made our way to Lower Berley Lake where we had a nice warm lunch. We then continued on to Upper Berley Lake and made a loop back to the ski trail. We then skied down the trail to the snow park and the cars. We were very lucky to have such a good trip with perfect weather. A nice change with this rather healthy snow year. Those on the trip were Dick Hildreth, John Mowat and Kevin McManigal Leader.
