Tamolitch PoolJanuary 3, 2004Because of heavy snows and low freezing levels, we decided not to take the original trip to Midnight Lake via Shelter Cove. Instead we chose a lower elevation, snowshoe, in the upper McKenzie Valley. We started at the trailhead at the upper end of Trail Bridge Reservoir and proceeded up-valley on the McKenzie River Trial, passing Tamolitch Pool and continuing for about a mile past it. Despite the low elevation, there was still an average of four to five feet of snow and below freezing temperatures, which is out of the ordinary for that location. All on the walk agreed that it was good to be able to do a snowshoe trip in a place where one could usually only hike. The snow shoers were: members Mark Slipp, George Jobanek, Andy Jobanek, Barbara Bruns and non-member Larry Huff. The leader was George Baitinger. |
