Otter, Williams and Erma Bell Lakes

September 8, 2004

Nine stalwart hikers left Eugene at 9 a.m. on the first day of school. Weather was perfect for hiking with temperatures in the 70s. We explored many trails around the lakes and searched unsuccessfully for Judy Lake. Waterfalls between Upper and Lower Erma Bell Lakes was prettier than some remembered. Trail was in great shape with one swampy crossing where it was helpful having walking poles. Driving to the trailhead two people saw a black bear crossing Hwy. 19. Two hardy swimmers swam in Williams and Lower Erma Bell Lakes while fish were jumping for bugs. Mosquitoes were still out looking for hikers. We returned home by 6:15. Thanks to Diane and Barbara for driving.

Hikers were: Joan Abel, Dick Hildreth, Betsy Halpern, Sandra Larsen, Walt Dolliver, Marshall Kandell, Jim Fritz, Barbara Revere and Diane Jeffcott, leader.
