Canyon Creek Meadows

August 22, 2004

Under rainy skies we piled into one car and headed to the Jack Lake Road. We arrived at about 10:30 a.m. to a nearly vacant parking lot but still cloudy skies. The trail had puddles of standing water and waved in and out of burned areas of last year’s forest fires. In some areas the burned trees blackened bark was peeling to reveal vivid red, yellow and orange cores. A strong contrast to the lush, meadow forest. After lunching just above the meadow which was past the height of the flower blooms, we made a quick departure under a rather constant rain. No view of Three Fingered Jack. We removed the wet outlayers, headed for a cup of hot sweet drink and arrived back at SEHS at about 4:00 p.m. The hearty group consisted of: Yvonne Stephens, Joan Abel, Daphne James and Laurie Funkhouser, leader.
