Mt. Bailey

August 22, 2004

On Sunday morning, Rob Castleberry and Joyce Thomas met us at the Diamond Lake Lodge. They camped the previous night at one of the nearby campgrounds. It was cloudy with a definite threat of rain. We could not even see Mt. Bailey. Joyce stayed at the lodge to read while the three of us drove to the Mt. Bailey trailhead to start our hike at 8:30. It rained lightly for the first three miles. When we approached the tree line, the rain and wind picked up so we dug out our rain jackets. Leader, John Jacobsen, made the decision to start back down. We did get a brief glimpse of Diamond Lake. Wet and muddy, we were back at the car by 11:30. Hopefully, next year we will have better luck scheduling Mt. Bailey and Tipsoo Peak hike.
