Tipsoo Peak

August 21, 2004

We left Eugene at 7:00 a.m. for the drive to Diamond Lake. I have wanted to lead Tipsoo Peak ever since Lloyd Plaisted died a few years ago. It was his favorite hike. The panoramic views were limited due to smoke from forest fires near Canyonville and Crater Lake. It was so hazy but we were able to see Mt. Thielsen and faint outlines of Mt. Bailey. Three people had crossed off their names for the hike. Another member would have gone but needed transportation and didnít want to do both hikes. Perhaps combining two days of hiking in the same area isnít flexible enough for members needing transportation. After the Tipsoo Hike, we drove over to Crater Lake to hike up Garfield Peak near the lodge. With the haze, the brilliant blue was not visible. In spite of this, the day was well spent. Perhaps next year, I will lead a Crater Lake hiking trip.

John Jacobsen and Janet Jacobsen, leader.
