Olallie Ridge/Horsepasture Mountain

August 19, 2004

One veteran, one new member, two prospective members and myself set off on a beautiful summer day to climb the well maintained, little used, Olallie Ridge trail. The trail climbs 1900' in 3½ miles through a beautiful old growth forest. It then proceeds about one mile through Horsepasture Saddle along the ridge to the Horsepasture Mountain trail junction, then climbs 700' in 1.8 miles to the subalpine peak of the mountain. Great views from Mt. Hood to Diamond Peak despite haze and clouds around the edges. A difficult, but very worthwhile, day long hike. Hikers were LaRee Beckley, David Gizara, Dick Hildreth, Mary Wade and Dan Christensen, leader.
