A jolly group of five women set out to help the leader
celebrate her birthday by hiking one of the two most
beautiful places on the Oregon coast.
After a pleasant drive up 99W through the fertile farmland
and then westward to the coast, we reached the trailhead at
about 10:30 and made a leisurely hike up to the most gorgeous
views of the coastline, coast range, the Salmon River estuary,
and the great Pacific.
We spotted a few of the rare hairy checker mallow flower
and some small silver-spot butterflies.
Afterward we had a leisurely drive down the coast, with stops
for sight-seeing and ice-cream.
Anne McLucas (leader),
showed newcomer to the state
our favorite places.
