With the weather service predicting near record hot temperatures, a sign up sheet with eight names dwindled to a hike with three participants. I was grateful to all who decided not to go along for giving me a call to let me know not to expect them. And I was grateful to the two stalwarts that braved the day and joined me on Black Crater.
It was warm, but the temperature was cooler than in the valley, and a nice breeze helped make this a very enjoyable hike. We made good time heading up the trail, enjoying shade in the woods and great views and wildflowers in the open areas. The view from the top was good, despite a bit of haze, and we enjoyed a pleasant lunch on the summit.
The hike out and drive to town were uneventful. Thankfully the car had AC, for back in the valley the day was all that had been predicted! Glad we spent it up high and in the breeze!
Hikers were Jan Anselmo, Walt Dolliver, and Doug Nelson, leader.
