Old McKenzie HighwayJune 13, 2004The gloomy weather forecast discouraged three riders who had signed up, leaving just three hardy souls to brave the elements. We departed the ranger station donned with rain gear in a heavy mist. The mist was sporadic (just enough to dirty up the chain and rear cassette!) As we ascended, the sun dissolved the mist and highlighted the cliffs. At the top of the pass, we attempted to find shelter from the wind. We awarded Peter “master climber” status for accomplishing this 20+ mile climb for the first time. As a pregnant chipmunk gazed into Jennifer’s eyes searching for a hint of maternal compassion, Sam barked to scare the critters away from our food. We enjoyed gliding down the mountain on dry pavement. Participants were Sam Miller, Peter Graham and Jennifer Baer, leader. |
