Maxwell Butte Shelter

February 22-23, 2003

Several days of snow the previous week made this low elevation ski tour a success (3,700–4,280). Five people hoisted packs and skied into the Maxwell Butte Shelter via the shortest trail (#8,9,10,12) some 2.2 miles on thin snow. A pleasant night was spent at the shelter along with 6 others. We took the longer Mt. View Loop trail on our return trip (6.6 mi.). The trail was poorly marked and overgrown and not recommended (the last mile from 24->9) without good conditions and a sense of adventure. Trip participants were Andrea Coffman, Gary Griffin, Stephanie Midkiff, Larry Schulze and Marsha Barr.
