Finley Wildlife RefugeFebruary 15, 2003Despite threats of rain, thirteen hikers participated in the Finley Wildlife Reserve outing. Many of the trails are closed to protect winter waterfowl until March 31, so we simply circled the three-mile Mill Hill Loop, which begins at a display pond. We wound our way through muddy trails framed with Oregon oak, maple woodlands, and Douglas fir. We enjoyed the diversity that several marshes and meandering creeks offered, and noted the numerous Canada geese that inhabit the area (each winter). With the hike completed close to the noon hour, several of us chose to tailgate at our vehicles and have a leisurely social lunch before heading home. Pete Peterson, Tina Rain, Lloyd Rain, Marshall Kandell, Max Brown, Kathryn Golly, Nola Nelson, Sheila Ward, Gayle Berge, George Randle, Gretchen Randle, Sign Otto and Jerry Brindle joined leader Chris Cunningham on this close-to-home nature walk. |
