Fall Creek

VETERAN LEADER FAILS TO SCOUT TRIP. THREE OBSIDIANS INJURED WHEN FALL CREEK BRIDGE COLLAPSES. SAFETY COMMITTEE LAUNCHES INVESTIGATION.

Okay, there’s a bit of exaggeration there. But the (senior) leader did not consider the consequences of the recent fire in the Fall Creek area; a bridge—just below Bedrock campground was washed out; and our group did have to backtrack a bit and do part of the hike on the road. And part of the hike is an area that shows distinct evidence of the burn. Nevertheless, this hike was fun as always. The rain stopped just about as we began hiking, the temperature was moderate, the creek and flora lovely, and the group good natured. We lunched, as usual, on some rocks at the Bedrock campground and did see the old Indian Cave. A shuttle enabled us to hike downstream over the nine miles. Enjoying the day were nonmembers Jack Downs and Jill Roth; and members Carol Petty, Yuan Hopkins, Walt Dolliver, Nola Nelson, Corinne Hunt, Sabine DuToit, Jerry Wood, Liz DeShetler, and Ed Lichtenstein, leader.
