Triangulation Peak

September 20, 2003

With the Eugene Celebration and the big Oregon Michigan football game on that day, we saw only a small group out for our hike, and while we usually see a number of others on this hike, we saw only one other group, with three in their group, also. We had delays because of paving above McKenzie Bridge.

We had a beautiful day in the mountains, with no smog. Along the trail we found a total of about ten huckleberries. Apparently the dry summer had its effect. Some years we find many of these berries along this trail.

After lunch at the site of the former lookout, we started for Bocca Cave. Ray soon decided not to go down, so Grace and the leader did this part. Neatly framed by the entrance to the large cave, Mt. Jefferson was beautiful with a coat of new snow.

It was a fine day for this short but very worthwhile hike. Hikers were Grace & Ray Mikesell and Norm Benton, leader.
