Matthieu Lakes

August 7, 2003

On August 7, 2003 12 of us left the Sprinfield bus station on Rte. 126 toward Matthieu Lakes. The temperature was in the mid sixties and dry, ideal for our hike. It had rained the day before so that the trail was neither soggy nor dusty. We hiked counter-clockwise visiting Matthieu Lake first. After lunch at South Lake we started on our return. Happily the mosquito population was minimal and the views were great. There were three non-members and one member of the Chemeketan hiking club in the group. I would like to thank Dick Hildreth for taking the point while I swept the trail. I would also like to thank Dick and Danny Baihuber for sharing the driving with me. Beleive it or not we met a tractor-trailer attempting to descend Rte. 242.

Hikers were: Danny Baihuber, Wendy Clarke, Walt Dolliver, Annette Gurdjian, Dick Hildreth, Larde Horton, Phoebe McArthur, Margaret and Bill Prentice, Nola Shurtleff, Jack Webb and Elliot Aronin, leader.
