Olallie Mountain

July 26, 2003

Eleven hikers crammed into Dan’s Van and Ed’s Outback (thanks to Helen for tolerating the middle seat in the back) for an efficient drive to the trailhead. A sunny, clear, warm—but not overly hot—day. Much of this hike is in the shade including some very big trees and wildflowers and lush groundcover. You get peeks of the Three Sisters on the way up but at the top when you swing around from the west side the views are 360 and it’s obvious why there was once a lookout on this spot. We wrote a brief note in the book kept in the abandoned lookout and spent a leisurely lunch period admiring the cascades. A pleasant walk down and back to Eugene by 5 p.m. Enjoying the walk and the views were nonmembers Tom Gould, Sharon Jones, and Sean Phelps and members Joanne Ledet, Ellie Maliner, Joe Neal, Max Brown, Helen Ligouri, Nola Nelson, Dan Bates, and Ed Lichtenstein, leader.
