Gwynn Creek/Cooks RidgeJune 12, 2003The day was overcast, but the temperature perfect. Danny Baihuber, Max Brown, Jim Duncan, Jim Fritz, Dana Furgerson, Helen Liguori and Joe Neal hiked. We began at Cape Perpetua Visitor Center and hiked down the coast view trail (the tide pool trail veers right off this) and turned inland at Gwynn Creek. Ascending to Cooks Ridge we passed scenic tributaries and scattered old growth spruce and fir. The trail along the ridge changes from fern covered to open second growth, then again to fern and spruce. After finishing the hike we watched a tide pool video in the Visitor Center — very good. Danny, Jim F. and Dana stopped at Darlingtonia on the way home to see the pitcher plants — worth the stop. |
