McKenzie Waterfalls/Clear LakeMay 31, 2003Sunny, clear, warm but not to hot; a great day for hiking. Twelve hikers assembled at the Sahalie falls parking area. We admired the falls from the view spot, then hiked downstream past Koosah falls to Carmen reservoir and looped back up getting second views of both falls. We continued east, crossed the highway and picked up the clear lake trail going counterclockwise around the lake (next year will go the other way.) Many boats on the lake. Stopped for lunch in the shade then continued around to the Lodge catching some views of the Sisters from the north side of the lake. Ice cream bars were the favorite snack at the lodge with Mel consuming two. Then we continued along the lake, crossed back across the highway and finished the waterfall loop getting yet more views of Sahalie falls this time from the top. Spring is a good time for the waterfalls; much water rushing down. Enjoying the day were non-members Howard Kopp, BK Rauch, Keely Butters, and Lauren Brugere; and members Tina Rain, Judy Newman, Mel Zavodsky, Patty MacAfee, Max Brown, Lucille Peterson, Ann Lichtenstein, and leader Ed Lichtenstein. |
