Hobbit Trail/Heceta HeadMay 25, 2003Although we left drizzly Eugene not knowing what to expect weather-wise, the coast rewarded us with clear skies for a six-mile round-trip hike from Washburne State Park to Heceta Head Lighthouse. We started out along a stream east of the highway through blooming rhodies, then up and down the steep, muddy Lighthouse Trail. After picnicing at the lighthouse overlooking the Pacific, we hiked back up and down the Lighthouse Trail to the Hobbit Trail, and then up the beach where we collected shells and observed tide pools at low tide. Wendy Clarke, Helen Liguori, Joe Neal, Carol Petty, and Benette Rauch joined Ann-Marie Askew (leader) for a glorious day on the Oregon coast. |
