Crabtree Valley/Scio Covered Bridge RideMay 18, 2003Four Obsidian members gathered in Scio to begin the ride. Skies were blue and it was a cool morning — just right for a bicycle ride. Heading north we climbed the hill to Ridge road and continued on rolling farm roads for 9 miles enjoying wild flowers, beautiful vistas of the valley below. Oh yes, a skunk — fortunately his aim was bad as he crossed in front of us. Down to the valley along Thomas creek and two covered bridges before we had lunch at mile 25 in a lovely park next to the Larwood bridge at the confluence of Roaring River and Crabtree creek. We had about a mile of gravel on Oupor drive and a dog named George greeted us on Hungry Hill road but the good outweighed the bad as we passed colts, lambs and wild flowers all along the way. Heading north out of Crabtree we rode into a headwind so we had a good workout on our return to Scio. The ride was 47 miles and took about 5 hours. Riders were Gayle Berge, Kitson Graham, Peter Graham and leader Norma Lockyear. |
