Mt. JuneMay 11, 2003There were only three of us but we decided to do the hike. The trail climbs through a Doug Fir forest with an under story of sword ferns and rhododendrons, the latter not yet blooming. The snow which had been present a week earlier was gone. Cloudy but pleasant weather, the clouds obscured the Cascade peaks. A few spring beauty flowers on top, where we had a rest and a snack, then back to the trailhead and returned to S.E.H.S. by 1:30 p.m. No doubt Mother’s Day held down the number of hikers but Laurie Funkhouser, Ray Mikesell (still holding his own at age 90!) and Rod Wood (leader) enjoyed the hike. |
