North Umpqua WaterfallsMay 10, 2003“Gorgeous,” “Awesome,” “WOW,” “Picturesque,” were some of the superlatives heard as we view FIVE waterfalls of the North Umpqua: Susan Creek, Watson, Clearwater, Tokatee and Fall Creek. These falls, reached by 6 miles of trail through nice forests, plus the scenic North Umpqua with stops at Colliding Rivers and Swiftwater Wayside added up to a great experience on a cool, cloudy day — lots of miles &mdash 275 — but well worth the effort. the rebuilding of the ½ mile trail to Tokatee was an engineering feat using a skyline across the canyon. A two year effort resulted in a great trail, lots of steps, steel fencing and a great viewing platform. Thanks to Elliot for this information and for driving car #2. A very congenial and diverse group included Carol Petty (Wisc.), Nicole Chase (Mass.), Bonnie Mannheim (India), Elliot Aronin (NYC), Iwo Lojasiewicz (Crakow, Poland), and S.N.O.B.s Max Brown and leader Ray Jensen. |
