Yachats to WaldportApril 21, 2003We started before a -1.2 low tide and headed North from Yachats, but were met with a strong North wind and rain so we reversed our course and drove to Waldport so we could have the wind on our backs and had such a pleasant stroll without rain, the sand flying ahead of us and a magnificent beach and ocean. Despite reports of multiple float-finds in recent days, we only found a decomposing sea-lion, many sail-by-the-wind, drift wood and other goodies. We managed a bit of rock climbing by Big Creek, and by the time we came near Star Creek the tide was up and as a large amount of sand has shifted all but the last stretch was a bit dicy. The incredible ancient roots were exposed once more. It was a joy to share with a group of great Obsidians (and almost Obsidians), a day of Peach and Joy. Hikers were Wendy Clarke, Yuan Hopkins, George and Gretchen Randle, Sharon Ritchie, Nola Shurtleff, Michelle Tambellini and Birgitte B. Williams, leader. |
