Trail Maintenance Training TripFebruary 25, 2003Sue Baker, from the Lowell office of the Willamette National Forest, was our teacher for this all-day session. After a brief review in the Lowell maintenance yard of safety basics and types of tools and their uses, we went out to the Fall Creek trail for some hands-on experience. We learned how to restore the tread to its designed width, clean out culverts, repair or create minor drainage features, and much, much more. And we all had a good time too! Unfortunately, no pictures are available from this trip as my camera case, containing camera, slipped off my pack strap, rolled down a slope and over a cliff into Fall Creek, 50 feet below. Trails committee members on this trip were Peter Asai, John Cooper and Dave Predeek. Other Obsidians along were Jerry Brindle, Max Brown, Dan Christensen, Yuan Hopkins, Royal Murdock and Jim Whitfield. —Wayne Deeter, Trails chair |
