Rosary Lake/Bechtel ShelterMarch 2, 2002The day was blue sky beautiful. The attitudes of the three skiers were all tens. The snow conditions were lousy — icy and as unforgiving as concrete. We gave the Rosary Lake trail 20 minutes of slipping and sliding but my fun meter was on zero. We decided to take our blue sky and still exemplary attitudes across Highway 58 to Gold Lake SnoPark and check our the conditions there. Well, it hadn't snowed there in a week and a half either but the gentler terrain at least made skiing feasible. We followed the road up to Bechtel Shelter, ate lunch under the sunny spring sky, and rocketed down the still icy tracks to our car. Though a bit bruised from some falls, we were all satisfied with our redesigned trip. Persevering with me, leader Michael Landes, were newcomer Joy Smith and Obsidian Norma Lockyear. |
