Joe's Peak

Febuary 23, 2002

Leaving SEHS at 8:10, we arrived at the Joe's Peak trailhead by 9:20. This is a lovely trail, only 2½ miles long with 1,300' of elevation gain. We had wondered if there would be recent blow-downs or snow on the trail. There were a few trees (old ones) down and snow paths on the east side at the top. Nothing we could not go over, under, or around. Because of the fog over the top of Saddle Blanket, Tire or Sourgrass, we could not see the top of which Joe looks up to. Lunch at the top — a little windy — it began to get cold — a little rain, so down we go. Back at the trailhead at 12:30.

This was a great hike. I will add that we did not just hike — on the way up, we spent time clearing the trail of downed limbs and branches for those who will follow. For those wishing to hike this trail, it is getting harder to find it — so watch your Willamette National Forest map closely. Hikers were Ann-Marie Askew, Max Brown, Steve Hilwih, Rita Parks, and Rebecca Hansen - leader.
