South Loop, Ray Benson
Febuary 23, 2002
After several delays, the trip finally was accomplished.
In January it was postponed because of no new snow and 3 days of rain in the mountains.
Several weeks later it was postponed because of over 4 feet of new snow and winter storm watch
conditions in the mountains.
Third time was the charm.
Under the threat of possible rain and no new snow, five hearty souls ventured forth.
(Wow, how poetic!)
What we had was 3 inches of new snow overnight (wet snow, not dry powder), but no ice!
It snowed on and off all day, the wind blew fiercely at times, the sun tried its best to
come out, but the fire in the Brandenburg Shelter was warm, and the group was great.
My eternal thanks to Elliot Aronin for taking the lead … and sharing his giant Hershey bar
at the end of the trip, and to Robert (Jim to you folks) Whitfield for sharing the driving chores.
All Obsidians, we were Elliot Aronin, Jim Whitfield, Patty MacAfee, new member Carol Petty,
and your sometime leader, Sharon Ritchie.
