Sand MountainFebruary 3, 2002The highlight of this nine-mile trip is the plateau below Sand Mountain. From the plateau it's possible to see Mt. Jefferson, Three Fingered Jack, Mt. Washington, and the Three Sisters. On this trip the mountains were shrouded in clouds, but the plateau sparkled with fresh snow against a blue-gray sky during our lunch break. The return portion of the loop was quick as we descended through several inches of fresh snow on top of a firm base. Our group for this sojourn consisted of Heather Meldrum Dainis Irbe, Steve Goins, Fred Felter, Craig Weinerman, Ken Kodama, Beth Kodama, Linda Carnine, and Sam Miller (leader). |
