Tahkenitch Dunes Loop

October 5, 2002

All fourteen who had signed up for this hike showed up at SEHS despite the heavy drizzle. As we drove to the coast we passed through more drizzle, then into mist, then fog, then overcast and finally when we had hiked to the beach — sunshine. We were also very pleased with the lack of wind. It was a great day for a hike. Unfortunately it was high tide so there were few beach treasures to be found. After lunch on the beach, seated on logs, we headed up through the dunes to view the lack of water in Threemile Lake. Then on up through the woods, checking out the bumper crop of mushrooms along the way. From comments afterwards, this seems to be one of the favorite hikes for many people. Hikers included: Elliot Aronin, Ann-Marie Askew, Gayle Berge, Max Brown, Wendy Clarke, Marlene Herinckx, Norma Lockyear, Patty MacAfee, Virginia Prouty, Jeanne and Denny Schmidt, Bill Simington, Sharon Thomas and leader, Sheila Ward.
