Drift Creek North
July 6, 2002
Departing SEHS parking lot a little after 8 AM on a sunny day, we drove
to the trailhead which is inland from Seal Rock in the Coast Range.
William Sullivan’s directions in his Coast Range Book are easy to follow.
We were the only hikers on this trail through the Drift Creek Wilderness down
to beautiful Drift Creek for lunch.
The beginning of the trail is through a climax forest of Western Hemlock which gives way
at lower elevation to mixed cedar, fir and spruce, and big leaf maple and alder by the creek.
The hike is mostly in the shade and the lower portion is little used & overgrown.
Hikers were: Dan Christensen, Carey Clouse, Morgan Koudelka, Don Ladigin, Becky Lipton,
Karen Rayle, Lucy Rayle, Dave Roderick, and Max Vollmer (leader).
