Brice Creek

June 29, 2002

Grey skies and a light rain did not dampen the spirits of 14 hardy hikers who met at SEHS parking lot for a hike to Brice Creek. We hoped the rain would let up by the time we got to the trailhead, but no such luck. We started at the east trailhead in a steady drizzle but by the time we got to the Upper Falls the rain was almost over. We all posed for photos behind the falls, then walked on to Trestle Creek Falls and lunch beside the creek. Thanks Wayne for sharing your knowledge about the history of the Lund Park area. The wildflowers were past their peak but we all enjoyed the numerous salamanders on the trail and of course, slugs. The size of the slugs were a source of fascination for Bill, who had been an Oregon resident for just two days so we all took great pleasure in sharing our knowledge of slugs with him. We walked on to the west entrance to Brice Creek, and after the car shuttle we were back in Eugene at a fairly early hour. Non-Obisidian hikers were Dana Furgerson, Marlene Herinckx, Morgan Koudelka, Anita Russell, Jayne Miller, and Bill Simington. Member hikers included Wayne Deeter, Ellen Johnson, Norma Lockyear, Bob Mason, Terri Mason, Sharon Thomas, Marilyn Waff, and Joanne Ledet, leader.
