Clear Lake/Waterfall LoopJune 15, 2002It was overcast and cool when 14 hikers left the parking lot, but when we reached the McKenzie Ranger Station, the sun was out and the temperature on the rise. We started the Waterfall Loop on the left bank of the river. The amount of water in the McKenzie made the falls very impressive. By the time we arrived at the part of the trail connecting the Waterfall Loop to Clear Lake Loop, we were all shedding layers of clothing. We decided to start Clear Lake Loop counter-clockwise and be done with the lava crossings before it got too hot. We stopped for lunch at Great Spring. The views of the mountains across the lake were spectacular. Beargrass, Oregon Grape and Vanilla Leaf were in bloom. Hikers were Jim & Sharon Duncan, Annette Gilmer, Yuan Hopkins, Beth & Ken Kodama, Norma Lockyear, Margaret Prentice, Barbara Schomaker, Michelle Tambellini, Sheila Ward, Joanne Whitfield, Mel Zavodsky, and Danièle Delaby (leader). |
