Kings Road to Castle Rock
April 28, 2002
Nine of us met Sunday, April 28, 2002, at the South Eugene High School Parking Lot.
The day had dawned clear and dry after several days of rain.
We drove in one van to the settlement of Rainbow, crossed the McKenzie on the covered bridge to
Kings Road, then to the trailhead.
The trail was in pretty good shape.
There were a few down trees, and some muddy spots grooved by mountain bike tires.
We maintained a steady pace up the 5.7 miles to the summit 2600 feet higher than
where we had lunch and admired vistas up and down the valley and the Three Sisters and Mt. Washington
to the east.
All but one of us were Obsidians.
Hikers were Max Brown, David Coombs, Peter Graham, Maggie Gontrum, John Hudson, Jan Jacobsen,
Steve Schriver, Bob Voas and leader Allan Coons.
