Willamette Valley Loop

April 27, 2002

Should we go or not?? The weather report said showers and 53. Five Obsidians dressed for wind and rain began bicycling on Ogle Road near the Interstate 5 Exit 216. We headed north to Boston Mill road and detoured a short way to see an old water powered flour mill on the Calapooia River. Shedd was our next stop to view a lovely Tulip garden, then on to quiet country roads with almost no traffic. An old hexagonal barn and an 1880 country church caught our eyes. We lunched at Green Gables Bulb farm on Peoria road near Corvallis. Back on the road with blue skies and increasing and a few layers of rain gear stowed in panniers, we headed for Tangent. After crossing Hwy. 99, we headed south on various farm roads. We all stopped to enjoy a field full of lambs feasting on alfalfa. We returned to our cars having enjoyed no rain, good conversation and 40 miles of cycling on flat roads. Participants were David Becker, Gerry Roe, Beth & Ken Kodama, and leader Norma Lockyear.
