Cape LookoutApril 6, 2002Nine hikers drove to Cape Lookout with a stop at Baskett Slough Wildlife Refuge to observe the waterfowl. This trip turns out to be one of my best trips to Cape Lookout for whale watching. We had somewhere between 20 and 25 sightings. All were close up, some are so close that when the whale surface to blow you can see barnacles on them, and hear the air exhausting from their blow hole. As well as the whales we saw seals, an eagle, puffins and other seabirds. Some wildflowers are in bloom mostly Trillium and one lone Paintbrush. Everybody had a Whale of a good time. Participants were Liz Deshetler, Sharon Duncan, Jim Duncan, Barbara Nelson, Mary O’Aversa, Carol Petty, Barbara Schomaker, Michelle Tambellini, and David Becker (leader). |
