Gold LakeJanuary 6, 2001Cold, foggy, overcast in Eugene; sunshine in the mountains. Still the lack of new snow and the cold morning made for a very icy road ski into the lake. We admired the creek and lunched by the lake. The day warmed nicely and the trip back was softer and there was less slipping and falling. On the way out we encountered one of the strangest sights of the year: Two men pulling a canoe! They had dragged it into Marilyn Lake thinking they could break through the ice and go canoeing. They didn’t, and couldn’t. Enjoying the lovely respite from Eugene's damp fog were five non-members (Linda Smith, Kathryn Madden, Jeana & Gene Perry and Donna Cash) and Obsidians Marriner Orum, Melvina Bartels, Jim Clarkson, Genie Currier and leader Ed Lichtenstein. |
