Rosary Lakes

October 21, 2001

Ten hikers left Eugene for the Willamette Pass on a crisp (early morning temperature was 37°), overcast fall morning. We hiked together on the PCNST until our lunch stop, leaving the trail only once to explore a small lake on our right. After eating lunch “chilling out” on the rocks facing a cold breeze blowing off Middle Rosary Lake (elevation 5850’), we hiked around North Rosary Lake and then headed back to the trailhead. On the way back, a few hikers scrutinized a man suspiciously who passed us from the opposite direction carrying a rifle with a sight scope and no pack. A good hike was enjoyed by all, especially those experiencing the trail for the first time. Hikers were Jean Butler, Wayne Deeter (and his homemade chocolate chip cookies), Liz DeShetler, Jim Fritz, Corinne Hunt, Janet Towar (who drove), Mel Zavodsky, Licia Aldena (from Bolivia), Lisa Eaton (on her first Obsidian hike) and Margee Wright, leader.
