September 30, 2001
An absolutely perfect day was enjoyed by those of us sharing the Jefferson
Park hike. The Corvallis and Eugene group had perfectly synchronized timing,
meeting at the Whitewater Creek trailhead within five minutes of each other. It
was a warm, sunny day, and we all appreciated our early start time (7:00 a.m.),
which allowed us to do our 1000 ft. of elevation gain in the cooler
temperatures. Because we were hiking the last weekend in September, what is
hectically busy trail in July and August didn't have the same crowds of people.
The crystal clear views of Mt. Jefferson and the beginning of the golds and reds
of Fall, made the hike a spectacular way to spend a Sunday Admittedly, the trip
leader's perspectives may have been heavily influenced by the chocolate chip
cookie euphoria resulting from the sharing of Wayne's home-made goodies! Hikers
were Russ Roberts, Wayne Deeter, Chris Stockdale, Jim Fritz, Penny McAvoy, Fred
Felter, Jane Engert and Jan True, leader.
