Deception Butte

September 8, 2001

Four eager hikers met at the SEHS park blocks at 10:00 a.m.; a one-hour drive brought us to the Deception Butte trailhead. The trail follows Deception Creek for a while, then crosses a log footbridge and climbs a steep ridge to Deception Butte, gaining 2600 ft. in four miles. Trail conditions included some downed timber, a few washouts and angled surfaces, adding some difficulty to the steepness. We had a lively lunch warmed by bright sunshine at the summit with views of Diamond Peak and Oakridge. All were back to SEHS by 6:00 p.m. Participants were Lana Lindstrom, Lois Weinfeld, Sabine Detroit and leader Peggy Lee Mathes.
