Black Crater

August 19, 2001

After an early start from Eugene, our group of seven hikers set off from the Black Crater trailhead. We kept a fairly rapid pace up the dusty trail and steadily ascended through the trees. It seemed like in no time we popped into the open, traversed the cinder field, and dropped our packs on top. The weather was wonderfully clear and with no wind; we luxuriated in the sunshine while we ate our lunch (a little before lunch time). We identified the mountains so clearly in view and soon enough were shouldering our packs for the hike back to the cars. Hikers were Jake Amato, Graham Coslett, Dana Furgerson, Giselle Garrity, Stephen Kramer, Anne McLucas and George Jobanek, leader.
