McKenzie River Trail

July 17, 2001

Seven hikers left the SEHS parking lot at 8:30 a.m. and began hiking from the northern trailhead near Fish Lake at 10:30. We enjoyed overcast and cool weather for most of the day with the sun finally winning out by the time we got to the end of our hike at Sahalie Falls around 2:00 p.m. The group especially enjoyed the variety in the scenery of wooded trail, quiet beautiful lake, rushing river, and of course the wondrous falls. This congenial group of hikers consisted of Joel Woods (first Obsidian hike), Lily Serrano (visiting the area for the summer and on her third hike this month), Carole Reinwald (fourth hike and about-to-be new member), Karen Rayle (visiting for the summer from her teaching job in China), Lucy Rayle (Karen's mother), Jerry Brindle (served as sweep and brought candy for all), Ted Shannon (non-hiker, watched over the cars at the trailhead) and Suzanne Shannon (first time leader).
