Umpqua DunesJune 24, 2001The prediction was for rain at the coast and we got it. We met Kerstin at the Eel Creek trailhead and started out with eight hikers on the high dune. Our lunch stop was in a slight drizzle in the protected foredune. After lunch we hiked to the beach and that's when the rain started, along with the wind blowing in our faces, the whole 2.5 miles to Tenmile Creek. I have led this hike about four times and this was the wettest. As soon as we reached the creek and turned inland the rain stopped. A reward for the wet beach slog was seeing two giant Blue Herons. Fearless hikers were Max Brown, Chris Christensen, Brendan Corbett, Kerstin Higgins, Karen Jenkins, Nancy Sharrard, Sheila Ward and leader Sandra Larsen. |
