Erma Bell LakesJune 16, 2001Trip leaders, take heed! Don't rely on the non-wilderness status from you last trip there in the 1980's! I did, but a very nice Ranger allowed me to divide my group of 21 hikers into two groups, 10 minutes apart; Michelle Tambellini kindly led the second group. I apologize for any embarrassment to the Obsidians. other than that, we enjoyed a lovely, sunny 68\xb0-ish day and trial. During lunch at the Lower Erma Bell, Nola Shurtleff tried out the water in swimsuit and teevas, but the wet rocks were formidable. A dry rock caused a swollen bruise for Mary Ann Holser when she fell after a picture taking session. A cloth sling, a baggie of ice water from the lake and a cold pop reduced the swelling on her forearm. Rhodies, bunchberries, anemones and sweet peas beautified the trail. Two otters, a hawk, dragon flies and a llama entertained us during lunch (llama courtesy of the Ranger). Mosquitoes not so entertaining! Hikers were Melvina Bartels, Patty MacAfee, Sheila Ward, Lucile Adamson, Helen Liguori, Margee Wright, Yuan Hopkins, Barbara Schomaker, Max Brown, Jim Whitfield, Michelle Tambellini, Barbara Sutherland, Danielle Delaby, Nola Shurtleff, Wendy Clark, Karen Jenkins, Carol Tomashek, Mary Ann & Tom Holser, Bep Fontana and Joella Ewing, leader. |
