Dog MountainJune 9, 2001We all met at SEHS at 7:00 a.m.; after a routine, three-hour trip to Dog Mountain we started hiking at 10:30 in overcast
conditions. As we approached the peak (almost 3,000 ft. above our starting point) we got into the middle of a cloud and it
remained that way during our half-hour stay at its top ... cold, windy, and no views.
But the wild flowers were in full bloom, beautiful and numerous. As we started down on
the backside of the loop trails, we finally had great views of the Columbia River and
surrounding mountains. The hike back to the parking lot was uneventful, arriving there
about 3:00 p.m. From there we drove in to Portland, where we enjoyed the Midway and other attractions of the Rose Festival.
We had a wonderful dinner at the "Oyster Bar" in Downtown Portland. Hikers were Wayne Deeter, Colleen & Greg Milliman, |
