Lightweight Backpacking Workshop
May 5, 2001
This Workshop on Lightweight Backpacking Techniques, held at the Lodge on May 5, turned out to be more popular than the leader expected.
We weighed our basic packs without food but including one quart of water. Packs ranged in weight from 8 lb. to 38 lb. The leader's was not the lightest, so she learned a few things, too!
We then unpacked several bags and talked about each item. The leader summarized the reasons to lighten up one's load and suggested various ways to accomplish that goal.
Thanks to everyone who attended, and hopefully we'll have a few more Obsidians backpacking this summer.
Participants were Barbara Bruns, Claude Ebeli, Jane Hackett, J. Scott Hovis, Marilyn Kerins, Don Ladigin, Sharon Ritchie, Judy Terry, Marian West, Brian Vail and Susan Baker (leader).
