Bobby LakeApril 9, 2000Five out of six signees showed up for this late season back country ski trip despite possible showers in the forecast. In fact, the weather was very stable throughout this 14 mile up-and-down trip on the back side of Willamette Pass ski area in variable spring snow conditions. It took 3.5 hours to ski to Bobby Lake via Gold Lake Road, Maiden Peak Trail; the PCNST was hard to follow north of the Maiden Peak Trail but John and Sue’s compass and GPS skills kept the leader on track for a late lunch overlooking Bobby Lake (four out of five in the group had never been to Bobby Lake, winter or summer). The ski out took three hours, with the group of Doug McCarty, John Mowat, Gordon Sayre, Sue Sullivan and leader Dick Hildreth, arriving back at Gold Lake SnoPark at 5:00 p.m. under blue-gray skies. Thanks also to Doug and Gordon, who drove. |
