Rosary LakesFebruary 12, 2000Steadily falling rain turned to snow as we drove up Hwy. 58 to Willamette Pass. Several inches of fresh snow covered a hard base. The trail was almost deserted. At Lower Rosary Lake the steady wind and falling snow soon chilled us. After a quick lunch we glided down the trail to the lodge for warmth and refreshments. Advocates are proposing a new designated wilderness to the Willamette Pass area. The wilderness would encompass small patches of old-growth timber, Rosary Lakes and the subalpine slopes of Maiden Peak. Hikers included Wendy Dame, Abby Gershenzon, Marriner Orum, Jim Whitfield and leader Dave Predeek. The three non-members all had membership applications, which I signed. |
