Matthieu Lakes

September 24, 2000

We left SEHS parking lot in three vehicles at 8:15 a.m. and arrived at Lava Camp Lake around 10:30. We began at the trailhead for the PCNST and Matthieu Lakes around 10:45. After a brisk morning the day turned out to be nearly perfect weather, sunny and gorgeous. We turned left at the junction for North and South Matthieu Lakes (around three miles in all; two miles from the junction). Right before reaching the lake we had a spectacular view of North Sister with a fine dusting of snow on it. After a leisurely lunch we headed back, following the loop to North Matthieu Lake (around .7 mile). More photo opportunities at North. We continued to the trailhead (2.3 miles more). We left the parking lot around 2:30 pm. Hikers were Ruth Romoser, Carolyn Kompanik, Barbara Shomaker, Nola Shurtleff, Herb Lee, Mary Ann & Tom Holser, Diane Jeffcott, Sam & Zola Miller and leader Linda Carnine.
