The original trip — led by Hank Plant — was full, so six of us left Eugene
an hour earlier than Hank’s group, all piled into Fred’s van. We hit the trailhead
at 11:00 with fine weather and lunched on the Rim with great views of Three Creek Lake below,
Broken Top, the Sisters and other peaks including — faintly — Mt. Hood.
Following Sullivan’s advice we continued west toward Broken Top for over a mile,
then up a snow field to the top of a ridge crest which afforded great views to the
south including Diamond Peak and Thielsen. We were back at the car by 4:30 and then
the long drive back to town. This trip provides wonderful views in all directions as
well as many wild flowers. Interestingly, we never did see the other group that was
alleged to be on the trail. Participants were Fred Borchert, Linda Eismann, Ethan Harris,
Dick Hildreth, Benton Elliott and Ed Lichtenstein (leader).
